Charges In Sean Kennedy Case Reduced, Victim’s
Family Says
Kennedy Family: Murder Charge Against
Stephen Moller Reduced
October 17, 2007
GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The family of a gay
man who was killed outside a Greenville County nightclub said the charges
against his accused killer have been reduced.
Deputies said 20-year-old Sean Kennedy was attacked on May 16 in the
parking lot of the former Brew’s nightclub by Stephen Moller because he was gay.
Kennedy later died from his injuries.
Deputies charged Moller with murder.
On Tuesday, a Greenville County Grand Jury handed down an indictment for a
reduced charge of involuntary manslaughter against Moller, Kennedy’s family
said.
Since her son’s death, Kennedy’s mother, Elke, has used his death to bring
awareness to the need for hate crime legislation.
Kennedy’s family has scheduled a news conference in front of the Greenville
County Courthouse for Wednesday afternoon to react to the reduced charge.
